Disney recruit Hamilton director for new modern age Oliver Twist musical, Ice Cube to star
Disney have announced that they are making a new modern day adaptation of Oliver Twist with Ice Cube in a starring role.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cube will play Fagin in a new contemporary re-telling of Charles Dickens' tale, with Thomas Kail, the Tony-winning director of Hamilton, behind the camera. Kail also directed last year's Grease Live that aired on ITV2 in the UK.
Marc Platt, who is currently working on the long-awaited Hollywood adaptation of Wicked, will produce, alongside Jeff Kwatinetz and Cube himself, who are also writing the treatment for the movie.
There is no planned release date for the project at present and its start date may depend on Ice Cube's availability. He announced last week that he will return to star in a third instalment of Ride Along.
