Doctor Foster stars reveal they are split over plans for a third series
Doctor Foster, the hit TV drama starring Suranne Jones and Bertie Carvel, finished its stunning second series last night (October 3rd), but the stars are split over whether we can expect them to be back for a third run.
The drama, which followed GP Gemma Foster as her life begins to unravel when she suspects her husband Simon of having an affair, has just finished its second run on BBC One.
Speaking to hmv.com about whether they would be returning for a third season, Carvel said he believed there could be a third series and hoped to return, but Jones has said she believes the story will end with season two.
Carvel said when asked if he could see a path to series three: “I can. I mean you’d really have to ask Mike (Bartlett, writer). But I don’t think he’d be motivated by how successful it has been, it’ll be because he’ll feel he has something to write about, he’s got a very similar imagination and take on things. I hope he can see a path to a new series because I love the show and playing this character.”
But Jones said of the same question: “Personally no. I’m booked up until December 2018 now and so is Mike so I’m not sure where we’d fit it in. I’d like to work with Mike again, but I feel like Simon, Gemma and Mike’s story has been told. It’s not closed down and there are other stories, but I’m not sure we have to tell that story.”
