Doctor Strange - Five Reasons You'll Love It

After the crushing box office sucess of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel has continued its formula of following each sequel with the introduction of a brand new hero with Doctor Strange.

The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg and Mads Mikkelsen. It sees Cumberbatch play Stephen Strange, cocky surgeon who loses the use of his hands, and, in a last ditch attempt to regain his former powers, discovers magic. His mentor on this quest is a Tibetan mystic known as the Ancient One (Swinton), who is training pupils to be the next sorcerer supreme.

It hits cinemas from today (October 25th) and is available to pre-order on DVD on the right-hand side of the page, but we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons you'll love it...

The effects are stunning...

You got a hint at the mind-bending effects in the movie's trailer, but the movie is on a whole different level. Whether it's Strange flying through other dimensions or the various masters bending buildings and huge landscapes, the effects are jawdropping and incredible to take in.

Benedict Cumberbatch commands the film...

The Sherlock star's journey from cocky neurosurgeon to broken man to sweeping superhero is a joy to behold. He commands the movie brilliantly.

But it's a great ensemble film...

Whether it's Swinton's zen Ancient One, Ejiofor's stiff and principled Karl Mordo or Mads Mikkelsen's madcap villain Kaecilius, every supporting cast member is on excellent form here.

There are some excellent one-liners...

The film's tone is a heavy one and it does not have the same zany sense of humour as Guardians Of The Galaxy or Ant-Man, but there are some great one-liners in there to lighten things a little.

Doctor Strange will be a real asset to the Marvel Cinematic Universe...

We won't give away what happens in the two post-credit stings, but it's safe to say Doctor Strange might well be back very soon and helping out a certain Norse god...

Doctor Strange is out now in cinemas and ois available to order here in hmv's online store.
