Downton Abbey 2 confirmed for Christmas 2021 release, Dominic West, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock to join cast

A sequel to the Downton Abbey movie has been confirmed and it will be released into cinemas this Christmas.

Downton Abbey began life as a hugely successful television series, which ran on ITV for six series and from 2010–15. A feature film then followed in 2019, which was a box office smash, with almost $200 million in box office takings.

A sequel is now in production, with Goodbye Christopher Robin director Simon Curtis behind the camera and a script from creator Julian Fellowes.

Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Allen Leech, Elizabeth McGovern, and Maggie Smith will all return to star, while Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West will join the cast.

Plot details are under wraps for the time being.

The sequel, which is simply titled Downton Abbey 2, will be released into cinemas on December 22nd in 2021.

You can check out the first movie as well as the television series here in hmv's online store.
