Ewan McGregor, Mark Strong and Sam Heughan to star in new thriller Everest
Ewan McGregor, Mark Strong and Sam Heughan are to team up for a new thriller.
The film, which is to be titled Everest, will see the three work with American Made director Doug Liman.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Everest, which is set in 1921, will chronicle the journey of explorer and mountaineer George Mallory, who is chosen by the Royal Geographic Society's Arthur Hinks to take on the challenge of climbing Everest.
Mallory will face competition on his climb from eccentric Australian rival George Finch as well as the prospect of scaling the mountain without oxygen.
The film will follow Mallory‘s successive attempts to make the summit, with the climb becoming an obsession that causes him to abandon his beloved wife and three children for months on end, give up his job, and push his body to the limits of human endurance.
McGregor will play Mallory, with Strong playing Hinks and Heughan as Finch.
Everest will start shooting in the UK and Italy in January 2022.
Sheldon Turner, who was nominated for an Oscar for Up In The Air, has written the script, which is inspired by the novel Paths of Glory by Jeffrey Archer.
