Ezra Miller set to join Eddie Redmayne in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts
The Perks Of Being A Wallflower star Ezra Miller looks set to join Eddie Redmayne in starring in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the new spin-off from Harry Potter, scripted by J. K. Rowling.
Miller, who will next be seen in the Amy Schumer-led comedy Trainwreck, is in talks to star as Kedan, a young magician who crosses paths with Newt Scamander, the wizard Redmayne will play, reports Variety.
Last week it was confirmed that Katherine Waterson, star of Inherent Vice, will play the role of Tina, who becomes Pompertina, a witch based in the US. She reportedly saw off competition from The Great Gatsby's Elizabeth Debicki and supermodel Kate Upton to win the role.
The new spin-off, which is inspired by Rowling's universe-expanding textbook about magical creatures, is not a direct prequel to Harry Potter, but will be set in the same universe, likely in the 1920s. It will be directed by David Yates, who was behind the camera on four of the eight Harry Potter films. Filming is set to begin later this summer.
It seems likely that the remaining casting decisions for the new movie will begin to made in the next few weeks as the first film in the trilogy is due to hit cinemas as soon as November 18th 2016, with two sequels dated for 2018 and 2020 already.
