Fast & Furious 7 becomes fastest ever film to gross $1bn
The latest film in the Fast & Furious franchise has broken a new record for box office takings, becoming the fastest film in history to gross over $1bn. The new film, featuring the final appearance of the late Paul Walker, now ranks as the seventh biggest box office hit of all time, putting it in the same territory as The Dark Knight Rises and animated favourite Shrek.
The film has been at the top of the U.S. Box Office Chart for three consecutive weeks now, with Kevin James comedy sequel Mall Cop 2 trailing a distant second.
There has also been recent speculation about the eighth movie in the franchise, suggesting that Paul Walker’s brother Cody, who stands in for the late actor in parts of the latest film, could feature in some capacity in the next instalment, although it seems unlikely at this stage he will be a straight replacement for his brother’s character.
Vin Diesel has also teased details about the location of the next film, hinting at a New York setting for the film and raising the possibility of a further part for Kurt Russell’s character.
