Flash Gordon set for reboot with Overlord director
Flash Gordon's big-budget Hollywood reboot has secured a new director.
A reboot has been in development for the last years and Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn had been attached to the project, but he has now decided to act as producer instead.
Deadline reports that stepping in to direct is Julius Avery, who will release zombie horror Overlord next month. Avery has previously directed Alicia Vikander and Ewan McGregor in Son Of A Gun.
Flash Gordon made his comic book debut in 1934 as readers followed the polo player and Yale University graduate, and his companions Dale Arden and Dr Hans Zarkov.
As the series went on Earth was threatened by a collision with the planet Mongo and the trio would come into conflict with Ming the Merciless, Mongo's evil ruler.
The series has been previously adapted for the big screen in 1980 with Sam J Jones in the lead role and a soundtrack from Queen.
