Full cast confirmed for Star Wars: Episode IX
The full cast for the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode IX has been confirmed.
As production gets underway, director JJ Abrams has revealed that Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant and Lady Macbeth star Naomi Ackie will be joining the cast for the third instalment of the movie series that began with The Force Awakens.
Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd are all back to reprise their roles, while Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams also return.
As well as this, Abrams has also confirmed that Carrie Fisher will be a part of the film, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
He said of this: "We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast or use a CG character.
He continued: "With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
Abrams, who was in the director's chair for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will take charge of Episode IX, having replaced Colin Trevorrow, who stepped down from the project in September.
Abrams has co-written Episode IX, which is due for release in December 2019, along with Chris Terrio, whose previous screenwriting credits include Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Argo, for which Terrio won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
