Gael García Bernal to star as Zorro in new reboot Z
Gael García Bernal will take on the role of iconic rebel Zorro in a brand new reboot, which is to be titled Z.
Bernal, who is best known for his role in The Motorcycle Diaries, will play Zorro in a setting close to present day, with the reboot looking to update the character.
According to Deadline, the movie will be directed by Jonás Cuarón, son of Gravity and Children Of Men director, Alfonso.
Speaking about the movie, producer Mark Amin said: “I have always loved Gael for this role. Zorro is a hero who is charming, witty and clever. Gael possesses all those characteristic and he’s able to deliver them with a modern spin to introduce the Zorro character to a new audience."
Zorro is the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega, a fictional character created in 1919 by pulp writer Johnston McCulley. He is a Californio nobleman living in Los Angeles during the era of Mexican rule.
The last time Zorro was on screen was in 2005, with Antonio Banderas starring as the titular character alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rufus Sewell. You can check out that movie and previous instalment The Mask Of Zorro here in our online store.
