Gaspard Ulliel dies, aged 37

French actor Gaspard Ulliel has died following a skiing accident in the French Alps, aged 37.

According to statement given by his family to French new agency AFP, Ulliel was involved in a collision while skiing in the Savoie region on Tuesday. The actor suffered brain injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in nearby Grenoble, but subsequently died from his injuries on Wednesday.

His death comes just a day after the release of the first trailer for Marvel’s upcoming series Moon Kight, in which Ulliel stars alongside Oscar Isaac as Anton Mogart, aka Mignight Man.

Ulliel was one of France’s best-known actors, beginning his career by appearing in various French-language television series before making his big screen debut in Christophe Gans’ 2001 Brotherhood of the Wolf. Ulliel also went on to star as Hannibal Lecter in Peter Webber’s 2007 film Hannibal Rising and as fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent in a 2014 biopic by director Bertrand Bonello.

Ulliel was also the recipient of two César awards (the French equivalent of the Oscars), one for Most Promising Actor starring alongside Audrey Tatou in A Very Long Engagement, the other a Best Actor Award for his role in Xavier Dolan’s 2017 film It’s Only the End of the World.
