hmv.com talks Goodbye Christopher Robin with Simon Curtis & Kelly Macdonald
Whether you grew up reading A.A. Milne's stories or were introduced to his characters via the Disney films featuring the honey-loving bear, Winnie the Pooh has been a fixture of many people's childhoods for more than 90 years. But while many fans of Milne's stories may already know that the character of Christopher Robin is based on Milne's own son, what is far less well-known these days is the story behind Milne's inspiration and the level of fame thrust upon the young Christoper Robin Milne as a result of the books' success.
It's that story that forms the basis for a new film directed by Simon Curtis and starring Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie and Kelly Macdonald. Goodbye Christopher Robin puts the creation of the Winnie the Pooh stories into context, detailing Milne's involvement in WWI and its traumatic after-effects, the inspiration behind the famous characters in his stories, and the effect of their popularity on Milne's young son.
With the film arriving in on DVD shelves on Monday (February 26th, you can pre-order it now on the right-hand side of the page), we spoke to Simon Curtis and Kelly Macdonald about bringing Milne's story to life.
