Guy Ritchie to direct Disney's live-action Aladdin
Guy Ritchie is to direct a live-action retelling of Aladdin for Disney.
Ritchie, who is currently putting the finishing touches to his new fantasy epic King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, has agreed to take charge of the live-action re-telling.
According to Deadline, the re-telling had originally been billed as a prequel, but is now a more straightforward live-action re-telling with a script from Big Fish writer John August.
Disney has a slate of live action re-tellings planned, Beauty And The Beast is in cinemas next year with Mary Poppins following in 2018. Jon Favreau was confirmed last month to direct a similar version of The Lion King while Mulan and Pinocchio are also due for similar treatment.
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword stars Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur, with Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey playing Guinevere, Eric Bana playing Uther Pendragon, Arthur's father and Jude Law as villain Vortigen. Guy Ritchie directs the new take on the story.
It will be released into cinemas on March 24th in 2017.
