Harry Potter and The Cursed Child's Jack Thorne to rewrite Star Wars: Episode IX
Jack Thorne, best known for writing the hit play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, has been brought in to rewrite Star Wars: Episode IX.
The movie is to be directed by Colin Trevorrow and the first run at the screenplay had been taken by Trevorrow and his writing partner, Derek Connolly.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, producers have decided a set of fresh eyes are needed and have brought in Thorne, who has the last year adapting His Dark Materials, BBC’s adaptation of the fantasy by Philip Pullman, and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Sheep for Channel 4.
Production on Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to get underway at the start of 2018 with the movie due to be released into cinemas on May 24th in 2019.
The next Star Wars instalment is The Last Jedi, which comes to UK cinemas on December 14th this year.
The Last Jedi sees Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis and the late Carrie Fisher return for the new movie, while Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran join the cast.
Looper director Rian Johnson writes and directs this new movie.
The movie is the follow-up to the hugely successful Star Wars: The Force Awakens and picks up directly after that movie with Rey having finally completed the search for Luke Skywalker. You can see the first trailer here.
