HBO orders second Game Of Thrones pilot, new series will focus on House Targaryen
HBO have ordered a second Game Of Thrones prequel.
The cable giant already has one prequel in production, which is set 5,000 thousand years before the events of Game Of Thrones.
The series, which is currently untitled, has been written by Kingsman: The Secret Service's Jane Goldman, who also acts as showrunner. SJ Clarkson, who had been booked to take charge of Star Trek 4, will direct the show's pilot episode.
Naomi Watts and John Simm will star, with Naomi Ackie, Paula star Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp and Toby Regbo also in key roles.
Now HBO has ordered a second pilot, this one will be more recent, set 300 years before the events of the series. It will track the beginnings and the end of House Targaryen, the house that produced Emilia Clarke's beloved Daenerys Targaryen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Colony creator Ryan Condal and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin will write the script, which is based on Martin's book Fire & Blood.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are attached as executive producers, but have now left HBO for Netflix, so will have no day to day input on the series.
