HBO reveal Game Of Thrones will get at least eight seasons
HBO have revealed that they expect Game Of Thrones to run for eight seasons.
It had been suggested that the fantasy epic, which is currently filming its sixth season, would come to an end after seven seasons, but HBO have moved to confirm that there will be at least eight.
Asked at a press conference at the Television Critics Association’s about whether the show would go beyond seven seasons, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said: "Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the conversation. The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. [David Benioff and Dan Weiss, Game Of Thrones' showrunners feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.”
Then asked if the network were open to a prequel or a show set in the same world as Game Of Thrones, Lombardo replied: "I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter It really would depend fully on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George [R.R Martin] and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.”
