Helen Mirren signs up for key role in Fast 8
Helen Mirren has revealed that she has a part in the new Fast And Furious movie.
Mirren, who was last seen in military thriller Eye In The Sky, told Elle that she'd taken a role in the eighth instalment of the franchise.
She said: "I've always rather loved driving. I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive if I do drive in it.' But we'll see. We'll see how it transpires. Film is a wonderful thing and it can be so many different things. I don't want to turn my back on any of the different ways movies can be."
She continued: "I love the movies. I love going to the films. I like very serious films, I love foreign films, and I love big, fun movies–as long as they're well made and they've got good scripts. That's the most important thing."
It's unknown what part Mirren will take in the new film and whether she will work with Dominic Toretto's crew or with new villain Charlize Theron.
The new movie, which sees Vin Diesel will return to star as Toretto along with Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Michelle Rodriguez and Jason Statham all reprising their roles, will be largely set in New York. It is due in UK cinemas on May 17th in 2017 and will be directed by Gray, the man responsible for Straight Outta Compton.
Theron will be teaming up with Jason Statham, who is expected to return to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw, the key villain in Fast 7. They will join Kristofer Hivju, who plays Tormund Giantsbane on HBO's hit fantasy show Game Of Thrones, he has signed up to play a henchman for the film's villain.
Earlier this year Vin Diesel confirmed that release date for the ninth and 10th instalments of the Fast and Furious are already set. Fast 9 will be in cinemas on April 19th in 2019 and Fast 10 on April 2nd in 2021.
