"I feel like it's my job as a filmmaker to try and shock audiences out of complacency..." - hmv.com talks to Hereditary director Ari Aster
Ari Aster might not be a name you've heard before, but that could soon change; with his debut feature film Hereditary, the up-and-coming director might just have made this year's scariest horror film.
Hereditary stars Toni Collette as the mother of two children whose own mother, with whom she had a difficult relationship, has recently passed away. However, following her death, a number of strangers attend the funeral and she begins to discover that there's a lot about her mother's life that she doesn't know. Moreover, when her children start to exhibit strange behaviour - especially her young daughter, Charlie - it seems that her mother continues to be a powerful and malevolent influence from beyond the grave.
Starring alongside Toni Colette is a cast that includes Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff and Milly Shapiro, and with the film making its arrival on DVD shelves on Monday (October 8th) we sat down with the director to talk about bringing his vision to the screen.
