"It was a bit of an epic quest..." hmv.com talks to Richard Armitage
With The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hitting the shelves on Blu-Ray & DVD next week, we caught up with Richard Armitage to talk about working on Peter Jackson's J.R.R. Tolkien trilogy.
Speaking about the filmmaking process, Armitage said: "Because we shot in continuous time, we didn't really have any concept of where the films were going to be broken into three, which I think is a good thing because it gave us a sense of a complete journey so hopefully that will be translated when the final film is there, but yeah, it was a bit of an epic quest, 18 months of my life!"
"I feel quite hopeful for the third and final film, I think it's going to be a big event. It will probably be the last time that Middle Earth is ever seen on the big screen, then there will be six movies that will stand alongside each other and it's the end of an era for Peter Jackson. 15 years of work culiminating in one film and one huge battle, which has to be the battle of all battles, so I'm very excited!"
