War Dogs - Five Reasons You'll Love It

How did two guys from Miami, Florida end up with a government arms deal worth $300 million? In new comedy War Dogs, which stars Miles Teller and Jonah Hill and is based on the outrageous true story, we find out.

It hits DVD shelves today (December 26th) and is available to order on on the right-hand side of the page, but back before it hit cinemas we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you'll love it...

It's based on one crazy, but true story...

It sounds far-fetched but it’s true: War Dogs is based on the entirely true story of Efraim Diveroli and David Packouz who in 2007 secured the multi-million deal that would see them provide weapons to the the Afghanistan forces through the Pentagon. However in 2011 the pair were arrested and charged with fraud. This movie tells their story perfectly.

Jonah Hill delivers another brilliant performance...

After his breakout in 2007's Superbad Jonah Hill has been mixing it with the likes of Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio to break out of his comedy beginnings to become one of Hollywood's most consistent and intriguing actors. His performance here as Efraim Diveroli is as good as anything he has done and mixes humour, greed and benevolence to brilliant effect, balancing beautifully with Miles Teller's David Packouz.

Director Todd Phillips combines comedy and drama perfectly...

Like Hill, co-writer and director Todd Phillips is best known for his many hit comedies such as Road Trip, Old School and The Hangover trilogy but with War Dogs the director stretches himself into the realm of drama and succeeds brilliantly in bringing us not just another funny film but one that has real poignancy and emotion in places.

It's brilliantly shot...

Elevating the film up another level is director Phillips’ insistence that the film be shot on real locations across the globe rather than sound stages to add depth and intensity to the film. Romania and Morocco stood in for Albania and Afghanistan respectively, both adding true texture to the film while the lush, apartments the guys purchase were indeed overlooking Miami in the USA.

Bradley Cooper makes a short, but excellent appearance...

In the same way that Michael Caine is Christopher Nolan’s “lucky charm”, Bradley Cooper is slowly becoming director Phillips’ muse with the pair not only working together again on-screen but they have also co-produced the film together. Cooper features in the film as Henry Girard, a shady fellow arms dealer who helps Packouz and Diveroli put themselves in the race for the US government deal.
