Risen: What You Need To Know
Joseph Fiennes and Tom Felton lead this brutal drama, which is set all the way back in 33AD. It follows a Roman Tribune in Judea who is tasked with the bizarre job of finding the missing body of an executed Jew rumored to have risen from the dead and here is everything you need to know about it...
What’s The Plot?
The film follows Clavius, a well-liked Roman tribune, who is summoned by Pontius Pilate t and told to investigate the rumors of a risen Jewish Messiah and to put a stop to them in order to quell any potential uprising. But, needless to say, things turn out to be a little more complicated than that...
Who’s In It?
It’s not a particularly starry cast, but the four biggest players are Joseph Fiennes, who stars as Clavius, with Tom Felton, who you’ll know best as Draco Malfoy, playing Lucius. They’re joined by Spooks’ Peter Firth and Fear The Walking Dead’s Cliff Curtis.
Who’s Behind The Camera?
Kevin Reynolds, best known for directing Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, The Count of Monte Cristo and the epic flop Waterworld, is behind the camera and has also penned the script with first time writer Paul Aiello.
Does It Deliver?
This is a glossy swords and sandals drama, it’s heavy on the action and dusty scenery, but light on the biblical detail, more Spartacus: Blood and Sand than The Passion Of The Christ. It’s gripping and thrilling and a good watch.
