Homeland star Morena Baccarin joins the cast of Gotham
Morena Baccarin, best known for playing Jessica Brody in hit series Homeland and Inara Serra in cult sci-fi series Firefly, has joined the cast of Gotham.
Baccarin will play Dr Leslie Thompkins, a character who is a friend and co-worker of Bruce Wayne’s father, who later became a confidant of Batman’s, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
She also works on her own to help the homeless and poor of Gotham City via a drop-in clinic frequented by criminals and Batman himself.
The official description of the characters provided by the programme makers says she is "determined to use her skills to aid Gotham's most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum's Home for the Criminally Insane. In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters."
Gotham, which is currently broadcasting on Channel 5 in the UK, stars Ben Mackenzie in the role of the young James Gordon and also features Jada Pinkett Smith, Donal Logue and Sean Pertwee.
Baccarin's character will begin her role on the show in 2015.
