Homeland to end in 2019 after eight seasons
Homeland is to end after eight seasons.
Showtime Networks CEO David Nevins confirmed yesterday (August 6th) that the show's next season will be its last.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Nevins said of the show's end: "I do not want to hear the word 'cancellation,' Alex Gansa will bring the show to its proper conclusion."
Gansa, Homeland's long-time showrunner, and star Claire Danes had both previously said that the eighth season would be their last, regardless of whether the show would continue or not.
Homeland launched in 2011 and followed Danes' Carrie Mathison, a Central Intelligence Agency officer with bipolar disorder who becomes convinced a prisoner of war has been turned by al-Qaeda and is planning to carry out a terrorist attack on American soil.
Rupert Friend, Damian Lewis, Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, Jackson Pace, Morgan Saylor and Mandy Patinkin have been among Danes' co-stars during the show's run.
The show's final season will be shown in early 2019. You can check out all the previous seasons here in hmv's online store.
