House of Gucci - Five Reasons You'll Love It

A glamourous Italian fashion house run by a warring, dysfunctional family, then you add in some corruption, divorce, criminality, lying, betrayal and, ultimately, murder, and you have a story tailor-made for the big screen.

And so it has come to pass, in the hands of Ridley Scott, one of Hollywood's most iconic and most stylish directors.

House Of Gucci stars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Camille Cottin, Reeve Carney, Jack Huston, Salma Hayek and Al Pacino.

The film follows the events and aftermath of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, head of the fashion house Gucci and grandson of the company's founder Guccio Gucci, in particular the involvement of his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.

Reggiani was tried and convicted of orchestrating Maurizio Gucci's assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years in jail before her release in 2016.

The film has a script from Roberto Bentivegna, who has adapted Sara Gay Forden’s book The House Of Gucci: A Sensational Story Of Murder, Madness, Glamour And Greed

House Of Gucci is in cinemas now and will be available to purchase on DVD in the coming weeks. You can pre-order it here in hmv's online store.

But, before that, we caught an early screening of this lavish drama and have rounded up five reasons why you'll love it...

The detail is incredible...

As you might expect in a film about one of the most stylish businesses ever created, the production design, costumes, period detail and direction is superb. Every shot could be a still from a fashion campaign.

Everyone is larger than life...

From Lady Gaga's outrageous take on Reggiani to Al Pacino's swaggering elder statesmen Aldo Gucci all the way through to Jared Leto's tragic Paolo Gucci, there are so many big characters here and Scott gets the most out of them.

The supporting cast are impeccably chosen...

It's a starry top line, but some of the supporting cast really shine too, especially Jack Huston's conniving Domenico De Sole, Salma Hayek's wild Giuseppina Auriemma and Camille Cottin's spiky Paola Franchi.

There are some great one-liners...

Scott isn't known for his comedy, but packed in amongst all the drama and twists and turns, writer Becky Johnston has managed to find plenty of funny moments.

It's an epic story and given the time it needs...

At almost two hours and 40 minutes, this is an epic story, but there's so much to cram in here, you never feel like Scott is dwelling on anything.

House Of Gucci is out now in UK cinemas and will be released on DVD in the coming weeks. You can pre-order it here in hmv's online store.
