Hugh Jackman confirms Wolverine 3 will be his last in the role
Hugh Jackman has confirmed that the next Wolverine movie will be his last in the role.
It had been all but confirmed that the next Wolverine would be Hugh Jackman's last appearance as the character after he dropped a big hint earlier this year on Instagram, but he has now confirmed it.
Speaking on the Doctor Oz Show, Jackman said: "It is my last time. It felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it. I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."
Jackman has played Wolverine seven times, playing the beclawed mutant in five X-Men movies and two stand-alone spin-offs.
He will star in X:Men: Apocalypse and one final Wolverine movie before he retires from the role. X-Men: Apocalypse is due for release in May of 2016, with the third and final Wolverine coming out on March 3rd in 2017. James Mangold will return to direct Jackman in his final movie as Wolverine.
