Idris Elba rules himself out of replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond
Idris Elba has said that his chance to play James Bond is now "gone".
The Luther star had been widely tipped as the frontrunner to replace Daniel Craig as 007 when Craig departs the role after the completion of the next James Bond film, but Elba has said it will not be him.
Asked whether he would play Bond at a Q&A at London's British Film Institute, Elba said: "Honestly, it’s a rumour that’s really starting to eat itself, if there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone."
Elba confirmed he'd not spoken to anyone connected with the Bond franchise about the role and then proceeded to blame Daniel Craig for rumours starting in the first place, adding: "Daniel Craig actually set the rumor off. About four years ago he said Idris Elba would be a great Bond and then it started to creep. I blame Daniel."
The actor did confirm that he had just completed work on series four of acclaimed drama Luther and that he still hoped to bring the detective to the big screen.
