Idris Elba set to replace Will Smith as Deadshot in new Suicide Squad
Idris Elba looks set to replace Will Smith as Deadshot for the new take on Suicide Squad.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elba has already met with director James Gunn and talks went so well he has now moved into negotiations.
Smith dropped out of the sequel last week, citing scheduling commitments.
Gunn's movie will not be a straight sequel, but a completely new take on the characters and story. It is due for release on August 6th in 2021.
Most of the faces from the 2016 film will not return, although Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn are confirmed to come back.
Gunn took over the new take on Suicide Squad after he departed the third instalment of Guardians Of The Galaxy earlier this year.
The director had taken charge of both previous instalments of the hit Marvel adaptation, was removed from his role after offensive tweets were discovered from earlier in his career. He has now crossed the floor and joined DC from Marvel.
Suicide Squad are a gang of villains and criminals, who are put together and forced by the US government into service as a disposable black ops team. They are led by a government operative Dr Amanda Waller.
