Jack Reacher: Never Go Back - What You Need To Know

After debuting as Lee Child’s hugely successful hard-hitting detective in 2013, Tom Cruise returns for a second outing in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. It’s released on DVD, Blu-Ray and on Blu-Ray Steelbook exclusive to hmv on Monday (February 27th) and here is everything you need to know about it…

Who’s in it?

Cruise returns to play Reacher, while Cobie Smulders, who you’ll likely know best as Robyn from How I Met Your Mother, plays Major Susan Turner, the one whose name Reacher is determined to clear.

Also starring are Patrick Heusinger, best known for his roles in Gossip Girl and Royal Pains, Aldis Hodge, who played MC Ren in Straight Outta Compton, Heroes Reborn's Danika Yarosh and Holt McCallany, who had small roles in both Sully: Miracle On The Hudson and Monster Trucks.

And who’s behind the camera?

Edward Zwick, whose track record includes Courage Under Fire, Blood Diamond and Defiance, directs. He works from a script by Marshall Herskovitz, with whom he worked on 2010 drama Love & Other Drugs.

What’s the plot?

This time we find Jack Reacher, hours after dismantling a human trafficking ring, returning to his old military headquarters to meet Major Susan Turner, whom he has been working with during his travels - only to learn that she has been accused of espionage and detained.

To try and help her out, Reacher seeks out veteran lawyer and old friend Colonel Bob Moorcroft, who explains that Major Turner has also been accused of the murders of two soldiers in Afghanistan. Not only that, he also tells Jack he is being sued, accused by a woman of being the father of her fifteen-year-old daughter, Samantha.

Then, when Moorcroft turns up dead and Reacher is arrested for his murder, he realises he and Turner are both being framed and sets out to clear both their names…

Does it deliver?

It’s dark, it’s action-packed and it’s got real pace. Cruise is really growing into this role and given there are 19 more novels to mine, we hope this isn’t the last time we see him bring Reacher to life.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is released on Monday (February 27th) and is available to pre-order here.
