James Corden, Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen and more to cast in new adaptation of hit musical Cats
James Corden and Taylor Swift are among the stars who have been cast in a new Hollywood adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical Cats.
According to Variety, Corden and Swift will join Ian McKellen and Jennifer Hudson in the movie, which is to be directed by The King's Speech and Les Miserables man Tom Hooper.
Lee Hall, who wrote both Billy Elliott and the upcoming Elton John biopic, has adapted Lloyd Webber’s musical, which was itself adapted from a book of children’s poems by T.S. Eliot.
The musical, which first opened in 1981, tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who must decide yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new Jellicle life.
Production will get underway in November.
