James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Logan's Dafne Keen to star in BBC's take on His Dark Materials
James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson are among the stars for the BBC's new adaptation of Philip Pullman's bestselling series His Dark Materials.
Set in a parallel universe, the series follows the adventures of a young girl named Lyra Belacqua who journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organisation.
For the new series, which has been adapted by Harry Potter And The Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne, McAvoy plays Lord Asriel, the ruthless adventurer with Logan star Dafne Keen playing Lyra.
Clarke Peters, who recently starred in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, plays the master who raises Lyra. Ruth Wilson will play Marisa Coulter, joining Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was previously confirmed to play adventurer Lee Scoresby.
Tom Hooper, director of The King's Speech, will direct the eight-part series.
The series has been adapted into film once before, in 2007, with a cast that included Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, Eva Green and Ian McKellen
