James Norton now odds on favourite to be new James Bond
James Norton, best known for his starring roles in War and Peace and Happy Valley, has emerged as the new favourite to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond.
Norton, who wasn't one of the favourites for the role initially, has now overtaken both Aidan Turner and Tom Hiddleston as the new favourite to become 007.
Bookmakers Labrokes even briefly suspended taking bets on Norton becoming Bond earlier this week. They have now resumed with Norton as the heavy favourite.
Speaking to the Evening Standard about the decision to stop taking bets on Norton, Ladbrokes spokesperson Jess Bridge said: “We closed betting temporarily after an unprecedented run of bets on James Norton, who was backed into favouritism from 20/1 in a matter of hours. We decided to take a breather whilst the market settled down. Betting has just reopened and due to the support yesterday and money wagered Norton is the odds-on favourite at 4/7."
Tom Hiddleston had been the favourite for the role, but has now downplayed the rumours, while Aidan Turner has signed up for a third series of the hit drama Poldark, which could rule him out of the running.
The new speculation comes after signed up to star alongside Halle Berry in new drama Kings. This is the third project Craig has signed up for since he finishing promoting Spectre. He will take a role in Stephen Soderberg's Logan Lucky and a lead role in Purity, a new TV series based on Jonathan Franzen's best-selling novel.
