Jamie Bell to play Bernie Taupin in new Elton John biopic
Jamie Bell has signed up for a key role in the Elton John biopic.
Bell, who was last on screen in tender drama Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool, will play Bernie Taupin in the biopic, which is to be titled Rocketman, Variety reports.
Taupin began working with John in 1967 and together the pair have worked on more than 30 albums.
The project has been in development for some time with Tom Hardy originally attached to star in the film, but last year he was replaced by Taron Egerton, who now takes the role of John.
The movie has now been set up at Paramount, with Matthew Vaughn, who directed Egerton in Kingsman, producing. It will hit cinemas on May 17th in 2019.
Egerton will work with director Dexter Fletcher, working from a script from Billy Elliott writer Lee Hall.
The story will follow John's life as he goes from a prodigy at the Royal Academy of Music to a global superstar and charts his enduring musical partnership with Taupin.
Egerton will also record a number of Elton John's songs for the soundtrack.
