Javier Bardem confirmed for villain role in Pirates Of The Caribbean 5
Oscar winning actor Javier Bardem has been confirmed as the villain for the next instalment of Pirates Of The Caribbean.
Bardem had previously been strongly linked with the role and was confirmed yesterday (February 17th) by Disney as villain Captain Salazar. The studio also announced that Exodus: Gods And Kings star Golshifteh Farahani would be part of the cast and that production is now underway.
The studio have also confirmed the film's plot synopsis, which reads as follows: "Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him."
It continues: "Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas."
The film, which is titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, sees Johnny Depp returning to lead as Captain Jack Sparrow, with both Maleficent star Brenton Thwaites and The Maze Runner's Kaya Scodelario confirmed to play key roles.
The script is written by Catch Me If You Can's Jeff Nathanson, with Norwegian pair Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg directing. Filming will take place in Queensland after producers Disney agreed a deal with the Australian government, who agreed to put just under $20 million towards the film.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is due to be released on July 7th, 2017.
