JJ Abrams shares behind the scenes photo as production on Star Wars: Episode IX gets underway

JJ Abrams has shared a first behind the scenes shot as production on Star Wars: Episode IX gets underway:

Abrams confirmed over the weekend that Keri Russell, Richard E. Grant and Lady Macbeth star Naomi Ackie will be joining the cast for the third instalment of the movie series that began with The Force Awakens.

Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd are all back to reprise their roles, while Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams also return.

As well as this, Abrams has also confirmed that Carrie Fisher will be a part of the film, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Abrams, who was in the director's chair for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will take charge of Episode IX, having replaced Colin Trevorrow, who stepped down from the project in September.

Abrams has co-written Episode IX, which is due for release in December 2019, along with Chris Terrio, whose previous screenwriting credits include Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and Argo, for which Terrio won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
