Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips to return for Joker sequel
A sequel to Joker is on the way.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, star Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips are now firming up deals to return for a sequel.
Joker traced the origins of the iconic Batman villain and followed Phoenix's Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian in Gotham City who is driven insane and becomes a psychopathic murderer.
It has now grossed over $1 billion at the box office from a budget of between $60 and $70 million.
Phillips and Scott Silver, who penned the Joker screenplay, will also return to write the follow-up.
The report goes on to say that Phillips will earn up to $100 million from the film, after deferring his upfront salary in exchange for a percentage of the film's profits.
