Jodie Whittaker confirmed for second season as Doctor Who

Jodie Whittaker has confirmed she will be returning for a second series as Doctor Who.

Whittaker took over from Peter Capaldi at the end of 2017 and is currently enjoying her first full series in the role at the moment.

There had been speculation that she and showrunner Chris Chibnall would leave the show after one season, but Whittaker has now quashed those reports.

She confirmed the news to the Hollywood Reporter, saying: "I really can’t wait to step back in and get to work again. It’s such an incredible role. It's been an extraordinary journey so far and I'm not quite ready to hand it over yet."

The season finale of Whittaker's first run is on Sunday, with a festive special set to air on New Year's Day on BBC.
