Joe Manganiello opens up about his plans for playing Deathstroke in The Batman
Joe Manganiello has opened about his role in The Batman where he will play villain Deathstroke.
Manganiello, who is best known for his roles on True Blood and Magic Mike XXL, told Mark Madden's Pittsburgh sports podcast that he'd met with Ben Affleck about the role and that he was planning to take a character down a "road that no one’s really gone down" and that the movie was going to be "gritty and action packed and cerebral".
He said: "When I met Ben we sat down and we talked about, you know, the role. We talked about the movie. His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to who Batman is. And I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about."
He continued: "It’s going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman. I told him in the room man, when I met him, "I should be so lucky, I’d be in great hands to work with you, I love your movies, let’s do this."
Though Deathstroke, who one of the most fearsome assassins in DC comics' repetoire, is confirmed to face down the Dark Knight in the standalone movie, though whether he will make an appearance in Justice League is still unknown.
Affleck's first solo Batman movie, which is expected to be titled The Batman, does not have a confirmed release date as yet. There are currently two unknown DC movies scheduled for October 5th in 2018, and November 1st in 2019, with The Batman potentially in line for one of those slots.
Affleck and Johns are currently writing the script for the movie together with Affleck scheduled to direct the film.
