John Boyega confirmed to return for Attack The Block sequel
John Boyega is to return to star in the sequel to Attack The Block.
Released in 2011, Attack The Block followed a teenage street gang who have to defend themselves from predatory alien invaders on a council estate in South London on Guy Fawkes Night.
Boyega starred, playing the gang's leader Moses, while Jodie Whittaker, Alex Esmail, Franz Drameh, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, Luke Treadaway, Jumayn Hunter and Nick Frost also had key roles.
Joe Cornish, who would go on to make The Kid Who Would Be King, as well as help to write Ant-Man, made his directorial debut with the film. Cornish will return to script and direct the sequel.
Speaking about his return, Boyega said: "It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released and so much has changed since then. I’m excited to see this heightened story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
Cornish added: "I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of ‘Attack The Block’ on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action."
The sequel, which is simply titled Attack The Block 2, is in early development, with no release date scheduled as yet.
