John Boyega stars in the first teaser for Pacific Rim: Uprising
A first teaser for Pacific Rim: Uprising, the much-anticipated sequel to Pacific Rim, has been unveiled. Click below to watch it.
The first movie starred Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Idris Elba and was set in the future where a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, in the midst of that a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon known as jaegers and try to save humanity.
The new teaser is an advert for the reinvention of the Jaeger programme and shows new star John Boyea in action for the first time.
It had looked for most of 2016 like the chances of a sequel to the blockbuster, which was created and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, were slim after Legendary Pictures pulled the movie from its schedule and no replacement date was put in, but at the end of the year it was confirmed that production will begin later this year and that Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Boyega will be playing a leading role.
Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost in the new movie. Scott Eastwood will also take a key role in the movie, while Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman all return.
Steven S. DeKnight, best known as the creator of Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its assorted spin-offs, will direct the movie, which is due to be released into cinemas on March 2nd in 2018.
