John Simm to return as The Master in the new season of Doctor Who
John Simm will return as The Master in the new series of Doctor Who.
Simm was last seen as the Doctor's dastardly nemesis on New Year’s Day in 2010 but is now confirmed to return for the new series.
Speaking of his casting, Simm said: "I can confirm that it’s true, thanks to the power of time travel I’m back. It’s always a pleasure to work with this great team of people and I can’t wait for you all to see what the Master gets up to in the next series."
Simm joins Michelle Gomez, who is also confirmed to return for the new run in her role as Missy, with Matt Lucas, David Suchet and new companion Pearl Mackie also key parts of the new series.
The new season will be Peter Capaldi's last in the role of Doctor Who after he announced at the end of January that he would be leaving.
Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge is now the favourite at the bookies to take the role after Capaldi, narrowly ahead of the previous favourite Kris Marshall, with Tilda Swinton, Homeland star David Harewood, former Game Of Thrones star Richard Madden, Maxine Peake and Olivia Colman also highly backed.
Capaldi was the 12th actor to occupy the role after taking over from Matt Smith in 2013 and will complete his spell on the show next Christmas when his final episode is broadcast.
Doctor Who will return for a 10th series on April 15th.
