John Travolta joins the all-star cast of new drama American Crime Story
Grease and Pulp Fiction star John Travolta has joined the cast of new drama American Crime Story.
Travolta will star alongside Cuba Gooding Jr, David Schwimmer and Sarah Paulson in the new drama, which will focus on the notorious trial of O.J. Simpson. He will play Robert Shapiro, a key member of Simpson's defense team.
American Crime Story has been created by Glee's Ryan Murphy and is a spin-off of his established drama American Horror Story. Each series of the show will focus on a different true crime from America's history.
The first in the anthology series will be titled American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, it will star Gooding Jr as Simpson, with Paulson, who is currently portraying conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler in American Horror Story: Freak Show, signed up to play Marcie Clark, the prosecutor trying to convict Simpson. Schwimmer will play lawyer Robert Kardashian, another of Simpson's lawyers.
The show will be based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson and will be told from the perspective of the lawyers as the trial progresses. The rest of Simpson's legal team, Robert Shapiro, F. Lee Bailey, Alan Dershowitz and Johnnie Cochran, have yet to be cast.
O.J. Simpson was a successful American football player, who stood trial in 1995 after being charged with killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1994. He was eventually acquitted.
