The film is the directorial feature debut of acclaimed theatre director Rupert Goold and is adapted from journalist Michael Finkel's memoirs.
The movie sees Hill play Finkel, a struggling journalist who is looking for work after being fired from the New York Times. Out of the blue one day he receives a phone call from a man regarding an FBI Most Wanted individual named Christian Longo.
Longo, who has been convicted murdering his wife and three children in Oregon, has been captured and claimed to be living as Finkel, leading Finkel to visit him in prison and attempt to persuade him to tell his story.
Felicity Jones and Gretchen Mol will also star in the new film, which is due to be released in the spring of 2015. It will premiere at next year's Sundance Film Festival.
