Josh Brolin to play Cable in Deadpool 2
Josh Brolin will take the role of Cable in the sequel to Deadpool.
Cable is a time travelling mutant and the alter ego of Nathan Summers, son of X-Men mainstay Scott Summers, who you might know better as Cyclops.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Brolin saw off competition from Michael Shannon and David Harbour, best known for his turn in Stranger Things, to take the role, while Brad Pitt and Russell Crowe were also spoken to about the part.
Deadpool grossed over $780 million at the box office and a sequel was swiftly ordered, a sequel that is set to film later this year.
Ryan Reynolds starred as Deadpool, with Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano and Brianna Hildebrand also in key roles. John Wick co-director David Leitch will take charge of the sequel.
Brolin is the second big addition to the sequel following the casting of Zazie Beetz. The actress, who stars alongside Donald Glover in hit sitcom Atlanta, saw off some serious competition to win the role of Domino.
Among those to audition for the part were Sienna Miller, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Masters Of Sex star Lizzie Caplan, Star Trek Beyond star Sofia Boutella, Sylvia Hoeks, who is currently filming Blade Runner 2049 and Stephanie Sigman, who had a small role in Spectre.
Also testing out for the role were Orange Is The New Black's Ruby Rose, The Knick's Eve Hewson, Kelly Rohrbach, who has a key role in the Baywatch reboot and Mackenzie Davis, who made her breakthrough in The Martian.
There is currently no release date for the sequel to Deadpool, which was released on DVD last year and is available to purchase on the right-hand side of the page.
