Kate Upton, Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Fanning in line for starring role in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts
Supermodel Kate Upton, Atonement star Saoirse Ronan and The Twilight Saga's Dakota Fanning are all in line for a big role in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the new spin-off from Harry Potter.
The Theory Of Everything mainman Eddie Redmayne looks set to take the leading role of Newt Scamander, a role that had previously been linked with former Doctor Who star Matt Smith. The role of Scamander is the lead in the new movie trilogy, which has been scripted by J.K. Rowling and the battle to be his co-star is now hotting up.
According to The Wrap, Ronan, Fanning, Banshee's Lili Simmons and musician Alison Sudol are all in line for the role of Tina, while the role of Queenie, Tina's older sister, is linked to Upton, Inherent Vice's Katherine Waterston and The Great Gatsby's Elizabeth Debicki.
The new spin-off, which is inspired by Rowling's universe-expanding textbook about magical creatures, is not a direct prequel to Harry Potter, but will be set in the same universe, likely in the 1920s. It will be directed by David Yates, who was behind the camera on four of the eight Harry Potter films. Filming is set to begin later this summer.
It seems likely that key casting decisions will begin to made in the next few weeks as the first film in the trilogy is due to hit cinemas as soon as November 18th 2016, with two sequels dated for 2018 and 2020 already.
