Kirk Douglas dies aged 103

Actor Kirk Douglas has died at the age of 103. 

Douglas, who was best known for his role in 1960 hit Spartacus, died yesterday (February 5th). 

His Michael Douglas said in a statement: "It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today. To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies... but to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad."

He continued: "Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad - I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son."

Born in 1916, the actor's Hollywood career spanned seven decades and included roles in The Bad and the Beautiful, Lust for Life, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and Paths of Glory.

He was nominated three times for a Best Actor award at the Oscars.
