Lionsgate postpones release of Saw reboot Spiral and new horror Antebellum

Lionsgate has cancelled the release of the Saw reboot Spiral as well as two other key releases.

Spiral, which stars Chris Rock and Max Minghella, had been due in cinemas on May 15th, but has now been pulled indefinitely.

The film will follow Rock's Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks and his rookie partner, who take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past.

Suddenly and unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the centre of the killer’s morbid game...

Samuel L. Jackson, The Handmaid's Tale's Minghella and Riverdale's Marisol Nichols star alongside Rock in the movie, which has a screenplay based on a story conceived by Rock and written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg.

As well as Spiral, the studio has also pulled Antebellum, the new horror led by Janelle Monae.

In the film, Monae plays Veronica Henley, a successful author who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late...

Both Antebellum and the Sarah Paulson-led thriller Run have been postponed indefinitely. Antebellum was due in cinemas in late April, with Run coming in early May.
