"We've taken the most irredeemable character and set him on a path to redemption..." hmv.com talks to Lucifer's Tom Ellis
Satan, The Devil, Beelzebub, The Fallen Angel; over the course of human history, the same figure has been given many different names and appeared in countless guises, but none quite like the one created by Neil Gaiman for the Vertigo Comics series The Sandman. In Gaiman's version, The Lord of Hell has become bored of ruling over his fiery kingdom and quits Hell in favour of Los Angeles - the City of Angels, no less - where he amuses himself by helping the LAPD catch criminals so that he might punish them.
Now the concept has been adapted for TV, with a first season of Lucifer airing earlier this year and a second already underway. The series stars Tom Ellis as a louche and mischievous incarnation going by the name of Lucifer Morningstar, who has taken residence in an L.A. nightclub named Lux. When a young singer he is grooming for stardom is murdered in a drive-by shooting, Lucifer enlists the help of the LAPD to find her killer.
With Lucifer: The Complete First Season arriving in stores on DVD and Blu-ray on Monday (October 17th), we sat down with Ellis to talk about working on the show.
