Magic Mike sequel Magic Mike XXL begins shooting
Steven Soderbergh has revealed that production on the sequel to hugely successful drama Magic Mike, which is to be titled Magic Mike XXL, has begun.
Soderbergh is not directing the sequel, with Gregory Jacobs, who is a frequent collaborator with Soderbergh and worked as his first assistant director on Side Effects, Behind the Candelabra and all the films in the Oceans series, taking over, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
He will however be working on the film, acting as director of photography, camera operator and film editor.
Soderbergh spoke about his decision not to return to the director's chair in a recent interview with GQ, saying: "I want to be there, but I don't want to be the director. I want to be a part of it. I want to be in the band, but I just don't want to be the frontman this time."
Magic Mike XXL is confirmed to star both Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello, with Matt Bomer and Alex Pettyfer also rumoured for the film. It is due for release in 2015.
