Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil - Five Reasons You'll Love It

Four years after Maleficent, which took over $750 million at the box office upon release in 2014, we naturally wake up to the release of a sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Angelina Jolie returns as the title character, an evil fairy who cursed an infant princess to eternal sleep, only then to realise the young girl was the only one who could save the kingdom from its dangerous ruler.

The sequel is set several years after the original and will follow Maleficent and Elle Fanning's Aurora as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures who live there...

As well as Jolie and Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville also return to reprise their roles.

Ed Skrein will play the film's villain, with Michelle Pfeiffer, Harris Dickenson, Jenn Murray, David Gyasi, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Robert Lindsay also new additions for the sequel.

For the sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' Joachim Ronning directs, working from a script from returning writer Linda Wolverton.

The film is out now in UK cinemas and will be released on DVD in 2020.

Before that, we caught an early screening and have rounded up five reasons why you'll love it...

Angelina Jolie is really enjoying herself...

Though she's less of an overwhelming presence in the sequel, the best moments in this movie are when Jolie really goes to town. It's impossible to imagine anyone else in the role.

As is Michelle Pfeiffer...

Pfeiffer plays the scheming Queen Ingrid, a monarch with a grand, cunning plan and delicious villainy. Up against Jolie, it's a great match and a treat for all.

It's action-packed...

Though, on the face of it, this is a Disney family adventure, there is a surprising amount of action, lots of swords and sorcery and one epic battle scene.

The fairies and the world is spectacular...

The design of the world, the look of the fairies and sprites, the costumes, the magic, this is a visual feast.

There's space for more...

If this is the last we see of Jolie's Maleficent, then it's been fun, but let's just say the door is left open for another adventure.
