Man Of Tai Chi: What You Need To Know
Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut, the martial arts, blood lusting Man Of Tai Chi, is released on DVD and Blu-Ray on Monday (July 7th). Here’s what you need to know about it..
What’s the plot?
It’s pretty batshit, but the basic premise is thus: Tiger Chen is a brilliantly martial artist and Tai Chi student, with a quick temper and rebellious streak. When the temple he studies at is suddenly faced with being bulldozed for modern development, he decides to help out. To earn money, he joins a mysteriously lucrative underground fight club, but soon discovers that his new employer has a more sinister ambition for him.
Who’s in it?
As well as directing Keanu Reeves also stars as Donaka Mark, the devilish runner of the fight club, who masquerades as the runner of a private security firm, while Tiger Chen stars as the young man dragged into this dark world.
Does it deliver?
This never made cinemas and there’s probably a reason for that; it was a bizarre, complex proposition, with Reeves as the only star recognisable to most members of the general public.
Saying that, this is exactly the kind of film that will find an audience on DVD. Keanu Reeves knows martial arts, he learned over 200 moves for the Matrix Trilogy and cares deeply about the subject, if you’re a martial arts nut, this will be right up your street.
